SouthBound is a platform dedicated to showcasing the raw, multidimensional talent shaping South Africa’s underground electronic music scene. A scene that embodies everything underground stands for—passion, innovation, and authenticity.
South Africa is home to some of the most driven producers, DJs, and event curators, all pushing the culture forward. At SouthBound, our mission is to illuminate the people behind this movement, providing them with a space to express themselves and share their stories.
Why this Platform?
SouthBound is born from a lifelong passion for music—I write not just as a producer, but as a listener drawn to all genres, yet, underground electronic music has always resonated with me the most. It’s a sound that embraces deep emotion while maintaining a rugged, raw energy that echoes through the industry.
Growing up in England, I was immersed in the scene, regularly attending events like FUSE, Junction 2, and Half Baked. These experiences shaped my understanding of underground culture, from its meticulous sound design to its tight-knit community. But nothing quite compares to the scene at the southern tip of the world.
South Africa’s underground movement is built on togetherness, quality, and pure appreciation found in events such as Small Town Beat, Agora and WithYou Festival.—something rare to find elsewhere. Yet, despite its authenticity and undeniable talent, it remains overlooked, drowned out by the accessibility and exposure of Europe’s club culture. SouthBound exists to change that.
What to expect from Southbound?
SouthBound will dive deep into the stories of producers, DJs, and event curators, bringing their journeys, struggles, and successes to the forefront. This platform isn’t just about coverage—it’s about creating content that the community can truly resonate with.
Expect a mix of written and visual content, including:
In-depth interviews – Through a series called Echos Of The South (EOTS) we will dive into unfiltered conversations with the artists and visionaries shaping the underground movement.
Event coverage – Showcasing the energy, sound, and culture of South Africa’s underground scene.
Music features – Spotlights on standout releases, mixes, and hidden gems.
Behind-the-scenes content – A closer look at the work that goes into building this movement.
